Abu Dhabi Police have seized 377 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and arrested three Asian nationals in one of the emirate’s largest drug busts this year. The operation was carried out in collaboration with the National Drug Control Service and targeted a transnational trafficking network attempting to smuggle narcotics into the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The suspects were apprehended following an investigation that led anti-narcotics officers to a concealed shipment of drugs hidden inside oil cans designed for sewing machines.

Authorities said the method used to disguise the narcotics reflected a high level of planning and coordination, but the attempt was ultimately foiled due to the expertise and vigilance of law enforcement. Brigadier Taher Gharib Al Dhaheri, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police’s Criminal Security Sector, said officers uncovered the concealment tactic during routine inspection procedures enhanced by intelligence-led surveillance.

He credited the successful seizure to a proactive and integrated approach that reflects the UAE’s national strategy in combating drug trafficking. No specific destination within the country or region was disclosed for the seized drugs, and the investigation into the broader network is ongoing. The identities of the three suspects have not yet been released, and they remain in custody pending further legal action. Police did not confirm whether additional arrests are expected but stated that international cooperation is underway to trace the source and intended recipients of the narcotics.

The operation forms part of a broader national anti-narcotics strategy overseen by the recently established National Anti-Narcotics Authority. The strategy emphasizes early detection, inter-agency coordination, and public awareness to limit the spread of illegal drugs and reduce the social and health risks associated with drug use. Al Dhaheri urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity through official channels.

He reiterated the serious health risks posed by drug use and called on residents not to be misled by false perceptions that narcotics provide emotional relief or enhance wellbeing. The public can report drug-related information confidentially through the “Aman” service hotline at 8002626. The seizure marks a significant step in regional efforts to dismantle narcotics trafficking networks operating across the Gulf and South Asia. Authorities in the UAE have intensified their focus on monitoring supply chains and unconventional smuggling methods, particularly through commercial and industrial goods.

UAE reiterates zero-tolerance stance on narcotics

This latest case follows a series of high-profile drug seizures in the UAE in recent months, as law enforcement agencies continue to intercept illicit shipments at airports, seaports, and land borders. While synthetic drugs such as crystal meth have become more prevalent in the region, officials say enhanced technology and increased international cooperation have bolstered their ability to respond effectively. The Abu Dhabi Police have reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the community from the dangers of narcotics, stating that all resources will be employed to identify and dismantle networks attempting to undermine national security and public health.

The suspects will be referred to the Public Prosecution, and legal proceedings will follow in accordance with UAE law. Authorities are also assessing whether the case involves links to other jurisdictions as part of broader transnational drug trafficking operations. The operation underscores the UAE’s strategic priority of maintaining internal security while playing a proactive role in global anti-narcotics efforts. With law enforcement agencies continuing to monitor emerging smuggling techniques, officials have stressed the importance of early detection and community involvement in preventing the spread of illegal substances. – By Content Syndication Services.
